Watercolor Notes

Today in class we took water color notes. We learned six different techniques:

  1. Wash
  2. Glaze
  3. Dry Brush
  4. Wet in Wet
  5. Lifting
  6. Drop in Color

We also discussed our still life drawings. Major emphasis today was put on defining;
  1. Highlights (Bright white hot spot of light)
  2. Transition line (defining line of mid tones)
  3. Core Shadow (darker region usually closer to the bottom of the object)
  4. Reflected light (small reflection of light in the core shadow usually along the bottom of the object).
  5. Cast Shadow (dark shadow that is moving away from the object)
This will help you to create a 3-dimensional look to your compositions. We had lots of breakthrough moments today in our drawings. We are interpreting light, and if you use five types of light above you will have success in drawing and painting.
